Oil Shale Interactive Maps
To grasp the full extent and implications of the vast holdings of water rights in the Colorado and White River Basins, these rights have to be seen on a map. Mapping these rights was a critical part of the "Water on the Rocks" report.
Below are links to six interactive map pages, divided by river basin and type of water rights. Each page shows key information about the rights, including the name of the right, the amount of water the right entitles, the appropriation date and the owner.
Colorado River Basin
- Absolute water rights - water rights that have already been put to use.
- Conditional stream water rights - "placeholder" water rights not in use yet
- Conditional well and spring water rights
White River Basin
